Project Reflection:
For this project, we had to research a topic somehow linked to globalization and create both an Op-Ed and a political cartoon for it. We did this by researching globalization as a whole, then picking some aspect of it to make an extensive set of research notes on. After this, we had to write a short informative paper, Op-Ed, about the topic. We then brainstormed ways to portray this topic in a political cartoon that we had to make several drafts of until we had the final product.
My big takeaways from this project and globalization in general is that is inescapable. Even the smallest and most remote villages are effected by larger countries and nations. Throughout this project, I learned a lot about how globalization effects us and what it is, but just as much as that, I learned how different the system used to be. I have always lived in a globalized world, and this project opened my eyes to how different and disconnected the world used to be, and how fast it has and is changing.
When I stared on cartoon, I was trying to be very literal with the things I was putting in my cartoon. This made my first draft very complex and cluttered. As I made more drafts, I had to learn to use more symbols and to only have the absolute necessary things in my cartoon. This made it more clean. I also had to learn to use color to my advantage and only use it on specific parts to make other things pop.
For the Op-Ed, it was difficult because the type of writing was very different than I normally do. Typically, I stick to doing more free style descriptive poetic writing. This made it hard to write mostly facts and statistics for the Op-Ed. IT was also difficult to restrict yourself to only writing 750-1000 words because there is so much information and things you want to say about your topic, but you have to decide what is most important to put it.
