What is LINK
At Animas High School, teachers and faculty strive to prepare students for post secondary success. One of the ways that they do this that is unique to Animas is through LINK internships. During Junior year, students partake in a 3 week long internship during the month of March that pertains to the career field that they are interested in. During these three week, the junior class doesn't come to school, but rather go and shadow a person in the career field of their choice This not only prepares us for the world outside of high school, but it gives an inside look at some of the goals that we have set for ourselves.
My Internship
My internship was at Durango Orthopedics Association. I was given a detailed look at Orthopedics and Orthopedic surgery specifically, which I have always been interested in. Durango Orthopedics is a small practice that provides care for any and all orthopedic medical problems. The two most common that I saw in my three weeks were knee and hip replacements. Aside from the actual surgery, my mentor, Tony Anderson worked in his clinic to meet patients with a wide variety of orthopedic problems from shoulder pain to amputees.
